Karen from Oregon

We are thrilled to have another listener join us with tips.  Karen from Oregon is a Dressage rider who started as an adult and is working her way up the amateur ranks.

Karen did not get her own horse until she was an adult, but has always loved horses. She read every book about horses as a child but especially the Black Stallion series.

She then became the typical horse show mom. Karen’s daughter showed in 4-H as well as some open shows. She encouraged Karen to ride and we finally were both able to take dressage lessons. Dressage became her main focus.

She had a 4-H club for many years, but needed more time to be able to ride her own horse. She is currently riding a wonderful 5 yr. old AQHA gelding. He is changing his focus and frame from western pleasure to dressage. Karen’s goal is to improve her scores in Training Level this next summer.  She and her husband grow quality hay on their 40 acre farm and have a few horses and cows.
